We had our first home study interview and home inspection today. It went really well, unless you count the part where our social worker arrived 20 minutes early. Ryan, who always waits until the last minute to come inside and clean up when he’s doing yard work, was caught outside unshowered, unshaven, and in his dirtiest work clothes. He stuck his head in the door and yelled “she’s here!” just as I was getting a certain child dressed and discovering that a potty accident had occurred. Just as the front door opens and Debbi walks in, said child runs through the entry, completely naked, with a lovely mess smeared across the bum. So much for first impressions. We’re all about keeping it real around here.

Other than the memorable start, the interview went well and gave us several things to think about and discuss more. We hope to have our second interviews (we’ll each meet with her privately) within the next 2-3 weeks, at which time we will have to submit all of our required paperwork. Then it will take about 3-4 weeks for everything to be written up, edited, and approved. There are a couple of things that could cause some trouble on the paperwork front, but we have back-up plans in place just in case.
